Oak Park Elementary Music & Media Arts Magnet is a unique and inspiring place for children, where our ethnic and cultural diversity is celebrated as a valuable asset. Every child and their family is valued in our inclusive community. Teachers use assessments and data to design a rigorous, standards-based instructional program that is challenging, engaging, and motivating for all students. High academic and behavioral expectations are set for each child.
Our credentialed music teachers offer progressive, extensive, and engaging learning opportunities. In grades Pre-School, Transitional Kindergarten (TK), and Kindergarten through Grade 3, students explore music fundamentals, rhythmic patterns, keyboard, violin, and voice. They learn to read music by playing the violin and recorder. In Grades 4 and 5, students select a music focus and receive weekly small-group instrumental instruction. All grades perform at least twice a year, with 4th and 5th graders showcasing their talents at various events around San Diego County.
Media arts is integrated into our curriculum, enhancing student creativity and digital literacy. The Magnifying Media Arts in San Diego Unified grant has allowed us to purchase Padcasters, green screens, iMacs, iPads and various other equipment to support students in becoming thoughtful consumers and creative producers of digital content.
Oak Park offers many other programs to meet students' academic needs, including extended-day math and reading interventions for grades 2-5. We also have part-time instructional assistants supporting literacy in grades 1-3 and mathematics in grades 4-5. Our dedicated teaching staff is highly stable, with many having taught at Oak Park for over ten years and holding GATE certifications.
We foster strong parent and community involvement, with several family-friendly events held annually. Parents actively volunteer in classrooms and are an integral part of daily life at Oak Park. We welcome you to visit and see the exceptional environment we’ve created together!
